NRHA Announces $150,000 Increase to 2026 NRHA Derby® 4-Year-Old Stakes

Total added money surpasses $300,000 with expanded divisions across all levels

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) has announced a significant expansion to the 2026 NRHA Derby 4-Year-Old Stakes, adding $150,000 in new added money to the program. The Stakes will once again run concurrently with the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel. A huge thank you to Gabe and Susi Hutchins of Tamarack Ranch and Amy, Kevin and Lane Colston of Colston Paving for being long time and continued sponsors of these Stakes.

With this increase, total added money for the 4-Year-Old Stakes now exceeds $300,000. Previously limited to the Level 4 Open and Level 4 Non Pro divisions, the Stakes will expand in 2026 to include Levels 1, 2, and 3 in both Open and Non Pro competition.

“This investment reflects NRHA’s continued commitment to the growth of the Derby and to creating meaningful opportunities for reiners at every level,” said Billy Smith, NRHA Commissioner.

The 4-Year-Old Stakes has quickly become an important platform for showcasing the next generation of reining athletes. The addition of Levels 1 through 3 ensures that more owners, breeders, and competitors can participate in a high-value, high-visibility environment, while also enhancing the depth and competitiveness of the event.

This expansion aligns with NRHA’s broader initiative to create more inclusive and progressive opportunities across all levels of the sport. By increasing accessibility and potential return on investment, the Stakes continues to grow as a key component of the Derby experience.

Updated entry forms will be available soon at nrhaderby.com. The entry deadline is May 15.
