LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER: SHAWN FLARIDA WINS 2007 NRHA OPEN FUTURITY CHAMPIONSHIP ON ARCESE QUARTER HORSES USA’S WIMPYS LITTLE CHIC
They saved the best for last Saturday night at the 2007 NRHA Open Futurity Finals. The final rider, NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider and NRHA Professional Shawn Flarida, scored a 231.5 to win the Open Futurity Championship on Wimpys Little Chic, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, of Weatherford, TX. Flarida has won the Open Futurity Championship four times; tonight’s win was déjà vu. In 2002, Flarida won the NRHA Open Futurity Championship on Wimpys Little Chic’s sire, Wimpys Little Step, owned by Mark Schols of College Grove, TN. Congratulations to Shawn Flarida and Wimpys Little Chic.
MARCY VER MEER WINS 2007 NRHA OPEN FUTURITY RESERVE CHAMPIONSHIP AND ELITE TRAILER INTERMEDIATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
In a run that brought cheers and thunderous applause, Marcy Ver Meer scored a 230 on Gunners Special Nite, owned by Bar Double C Ranch. Ver Meer, of Cave Creek, AZ, took home the Open Futurity Reserve Championship and the Elite Trailer Intermediate Open Futurity Championship honors with the flashy stallion that resembles his father – NRHA’s newest Million Dollar Sire - Gunner. Congratulations to Marcy Ver Meer and Gunners Special Nite.
McCutcheon Goes from Consolation Round to Become 2007 Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Champion
NRHA Million Dollar Rider Mandy McCutcheon came from the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Consolation Round to win the Non Pro Futurity Championship. McCutcheon is the first and only Non Pro to reach the million dollar rider status. She advanced three horses to the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity finals. Sarah Johnson Ties for Reserve Champion in the Cinch/NRHA Non Pro Division and Wins Cinch/NRHA Intermediate Non Pro Division Championship
Congratulations to Sarah Johnson of Gainesville, TX, for her big win in the Cinch/NRHA Non Pro Futurity. Johnson tied with Kelle Smith, of Belle Center, OH, to win Reserve Champion in the Cinch/NRHA Non Pro Division. Johnson’s score of 219.5 also earned her the Cinch/NRHA Intermediate Non Pro Division Championship. The past Non Pro Derby and Futurity Reserve Champion rode Sonata Spot, a Paint gelding by Mark This Spot and out of Sonata. Sonata Spot is owned by her grandfather, Burdette Johnson of Shell Rock, IA. Congratulations to Sarah Johnson and Sonata Spot.

One of the most prestigious reining events in the world is coming back to Oklahoma City. The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) has chosen the NRHA to host the 2007 FEI World Reining Masters. The international competition will be held November 29 during the NRHA’s premier event for three-year-old horses. The 2007 NRHA Futurity is set for November 22-December 1 at the Oklahoma State Fair Park. This isn’t the first time the NRHA and Oklahoma City have hosted the big event.
